What is the CISRS scaffolding record scheme?
CISRS is the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme, the industry recognised scaffold training scheme that has been operating for over 40 years. It provides proof that individuals have been trained and are fully qualified to construct, use and dismantle scaffolding.
Who needs a CISRS card?
Anyone working as a scaffolder on a construction site in the UK is expected to hold a valid CISRS card. Most major organisations and principal contractors will require their workforce to hold the relevant CISRS qualification for their level of work.
How long does CISRS training take?
This depends on the level of qualification you are working towards. Entry level courses can be completed in a matter of days, while higher level qualifications require a combination of training, assessment and on site experience logged over a period of time.
Will I receive a card on completion?
Yes, upon successful completion of your CISRS training and assessment you will be issued with a CISRS card relevant to your level of qualification, which is recognised across the construction industry.

CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card

The CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card is aimed at operatives who carry out onsite labouring/driving duties in support of scaffolding operations.

Scaffolding Labourers are only allowed to work from a safe secure position i.e. ground, building floor/fully protected roof or a fully completed scaffold platform.

How do I get a CSCS Red Provisional Card

Step one: Take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. (or hold accepted exemption)

Step two: Achieve the COTS Course (taken within 2 years)

The Scaffolding Labourer Card is valid for five years and can only be renewed six months prior to the expiry date printed on the card.

Scaffolding Labourers are not permitted to erect, alter or dismantle scaffolding.

CISRS Trainee Scaffolder Card

The CISRS Trainee Scaffolder Card is available to operatives who are undertaking the CISRS training required for a CISRS Scaffolder Card.

CISRS Trainee Scaffolder card holders will be considered a trainee scaffolder regardless of the experience they have within the scaffolding industry. Accordingly, they should not undertake any scaffolding activities unless they are under the direct supervision of a qualified scaffolder.

A trainee must have held a CISRS Labourer Card for a minimum of 3 months and have gained relevant site experience prior to attending the Part 1 course. In most instances this initial period will be longer.

Minimum Training Required for the first 18 months of holding a CISRS Trainee Card:

Step two: CISRS Part 1 Course

The Trainee Scaffolder Card is valid for 18 months. Over these 18 months, trainees are expected to undertake the CISRS Part 2 course.

Minimum Training Required for the second 18 months of holding a CISRS Trainee Card:

Step one: Take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. (or hold accepted exemption)

Step two: CISRS Part 2 Course

Once the CISRS Part 2 is complete, the cardholder may be issued with a renewed Trainee Card, which will be valid for a further 18 months. Trainees are expected to complete the following within the next 18-months:

CISRS Scaffolder (Tube and Fitting) Card

How do I get a CISRS Scaffolder (Tube and Fitting) Card:

Step one: Take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. (or hold accepted exemption)

Step two: Complete the following:
CISRS Part 1 Course
CISRS Part 2
NVQ level 2
CISRS Part Two Practical Assessment

The Scaffolder Card is valid for five years and can only be renewed six months prior to the expiry date printed on the card.

The operative may now be deemed a qualified scaffolder and can lead a scaffold gang in basic scaffold operations as defined in TG20 and CISRS course content.

CISRS Advanced Scaffolder (Tube and Fitting) Card

Operatives must be in possession of a CISRS Scaffolder (Tube & Fitting) Card for at least 12 months before they can attend an Advanced Scaffolder Training Course.

How do I get a CISRS Advanced Scaffolder (Tube and Fitting) Card

Step one: Take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. (or hold accepted exemption)

Step two: Complete the CISRS Advanced Course, NVQ Level 3 and CISRS Advanced Practical Assessment

The Advanced Scaffolder Card is valid for five years and can only be renewed six months prior to the expiry date printed on the card.

A CISRS Advanced Scaffolder Card Holder is deemed competent to lead a scaffold gang in all scaffold operations, including complex design structures.

CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Card

The Basic Scaffold Inspection Course is aimed at anyone who is responsible for carrying out statutory scaffold inspections on basic scaffold structures in accordance with Working at Height Regulation 2005.

CISRS Advanced Scaffold Inspection Card

The Advanced Scaffold Inspection training covers both basic and more complex scaffolding structures. It is aimed at professional Scaffold Inspectors, Scaffolding Supervisors and Management and others who are responsible for statutory scaffold inspection for more complex structures.

How do I get a CISRS Advanced Scaffold Inspection Card

Step one: Held a CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Card for a minimum of two years (see exemptions below)

Step two: Take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. (or hold accepted exemption)

Step three: Achieve the CISRS Advanced Scaffold Inspection Course

Exemptions to step one: CISRS Scaffolders who have held their card for a minimum of two years, and Advanced cardholders, will be eligible to attend this course without initially having to attend the Basic Scaffold Inspection course.

The Advanced Scaffold Inspection Card is valid for five years and can only be renewed six months prior to the expiry date printed on the card.
