IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) accreditation is a globally recognised qualification that focuses on the safe use of powered access equipment, such as aerial work platforms and cherry pickers. The accreditation aims to promote best practices and enhance safety standards in the use of such machinery across various industries.
Since its inception in 1983, IPAF has focused on promoting the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide, providing training, resources, and advocacy for best practices in the industry.
IPAF offers comprehensive training courses that cover essential topics, including safe operation, risk assessment, and emergency procedures related to powered access equipment. Individuals learn to identify hazards, perform equipment inspections, and implement safety measures to protect themselves and others while working at height.
Upon successful completion of the training, individuals receive an IPAF card, which serves as proof of their competence and is widely accepted by employers in the construction and maintenance sectors. This accreditation not only enhances employability but also demonstrates a commitment to safety and professionalism.
A PAL Card is a Powered Access Licence for operating Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWPs) or Construction Hoists (CHs). This card is awarded upon successful completion of IPAF’s training courses, which cover the safe use of various types of powered access platforms, such as cherry pickers and scissor lifts.
Step one: Enrol onto the appropriate IPAF training course
Step two: Achieve the written and practical test
Upon successfully achieving your assessment the assessment, you will be issued an IPAF PAL Card. The PAL card is valid for five years.
Can I get the CSCS logo on my PAL Card?
IPAF is able to offer the CSCS logo on the PAL Card operator licence, in line with a requirement from Build UK stipulating that access to construction sites should be restricted to holders of accredited licences or competency cards.
Operators of MEWPs who are members of any construction trade body that affords CSCS accreditation will not need a CSCS logo to be added to their PAL Card.
Candidates who are undergoing training or a refresher course with the goal of obtaining a new or updated PAL Card with the CSCS logo, please contact us.
In all cases operators will have to supply proof of having passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environmental touch screen test within the two years prior to application for the card.
