Overview

The National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education and Training course is the UK’s first standard specifically dedicated to suicide awareness and education including prevention, intervention and postvention skills. Providing comprehensive guidelines for organisations to plan for, respond to and support people affected by suicide.

This short course provides learners with the foundational knowledge needed to effectively intervene in situations where someone may be contemplating suicide.
Course Content
At the end of the course, delegates will have an understanding of:
• The definition of Suicide
• The potential impact of language used
• The suicide continuum
• Understanding Intention vs outcome
• Survival instinct
• Suicide safety guide 3-step model
• Recognising the signs of suicide
• Piecing the jigsaw together
• How to ask about suicide
• How not to ask about suicide
• How to listen non judgementally
• Introduce and explore options
• Helping them cope
• Immediate safety – staying safe
• Working in partnership.
Upon successfully completing the course, delegates will be awarded with an assured certificate of attendance, which will be valid for three years.
Delegates are continuously evaluated during the course which involves a digital workbook, group discussions, exercises, breakout rooms, concepts, videos and skills practice.

This course can be delivered online or in person.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

The suicide first aid lite course equips you with the tools to recognise the signs of suicide, initiate life-saving conversations, and connect a person having thoughts of suicide with appropriate resources. This course is aimed at managers, Team Leaders, HR, H&S Managers, occupational health teams and anyone involved with organisational health, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion.

Course Prerequisites

Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
