Overview

This course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and is the UK’s first standard specifically dedicated to suicide awareness and education including prevention intervention and postvention skills. Providing comprehensive guidelines for organisations to plan for, respond to and support people affected by suicide.

This course provides learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively intervene in situations where someone may be contemplating suicide.
Course Content
At the end of the course, delegates will have an understanding of:
• The definition of suicide
• The potential impact of language used
• The suicide continuum
• Understanding intention vs outcome
• Contributing factors to thoughts of suicide
• Immediate triggers
• Population based suicide
• Prevention, intervention and postvention
• Partnership working and signposting
• Survival instinct – meeting their needs
• Recognise the sign of suicide
• How to talk about suicide
• Immediate safety – staying safe
• The suicide plan
• Prior suicide behaviour
• Personal safety plan.
Upon successfully completing the course, delegates will be awarded with an accredited certificate of attendance, which will be valid for three years.
Delegates are continuously evaluated during the course which involves a digital workbook, group discussions, exercises, breakout rooms, concepts, videos and skills practice.

This course can be delivered online or in person.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

Following the course individuals can choose to complete additional assignments which upon satisfactory completion, will award them with a Level 4 City & Guilds certificate. This involves an additional qualification fee per person. Please mention this at the enquiry stage should you wish to include this in your booking.

This course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn the skills of how to spot the warning signs and prevent a suicide, it is also aimed at managers, team leaders, HR, H&S teams, occupational health teams and anyone involved with organisational Health, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion.

Course Prerequisites

Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
